Hi.
I'm working on a production where both a projection screen and QLab will be used.
I would like to be able to unfreeze my iMac screen temporarily to display a photograph on the screen, but then switch back to QLab to use sound cues, all the while leaving the projector ON. (I am too far away from the projector to do it myself).

Is it possible to leave the projector on the whole time, and project a black wallpaper onscreen while I'm using QLab?
Is my only option to turn the projector on when I need it?

In the Displays pane of System Preferences, ensure that the option to mirror displays is disabled, from the Arrangement tab. If QLab is open when you make that change, it's a good idea to quit and relaunch QLab. In QLab, from the Tools menu, you can set all desktop backgrounds to black.

What would be the best way to configure the screens, then?
To switch back and forth, would i just pull up the Display option and check/uncheck the Mirror box every time?

No. You just start and stop your image in QLab and whenever it's not playing the projector will show black. There is no need to ever mirror your displays while running a show.
