This problem seems almost too simple to be a problem. I'm attempting
to fade up at the beginning of a cue, meaning that the cue starts from
0 and goes up to its regular level. However, since the cue loops, I
don't want to use the Settings fade, since(I believe, anyway) that
will cause the fade to trigger with each loop. What I tried to set up
was a small group: I fire children simultaneously, trigger the audio
cue, then a fade down to -inf in 0 time, and then a fade up at some
other length of time. What's happening is the group is effectively
skipping the fade down, meaning that the audio cue fires, then is
followed by the fade up. Since the cue started at its regular volume,
this fade up does nothing. Interestingly enough, if the fade down has
a time of anything greater than zero, it functions perfectly. Having
the cue start, fade out, then fade back up, however, is undesirable.
I don't quite understand why my instant fade isn't recognised. Any
help would be much appreciated!

I think you are over thinking it.
What you want is the following.

Q1 Sound cue (infinite loop checked)
AUTOCONTINE
Fade Up of sound cue.

That way the sound cue is faded up once and the audio loops forever never triggering the fade up again.

Jason,

from my experience, the fade cue has an explicit duration.

I have the following setup in our show and it works without a glitch:

-fade cue up (autocontinue)
-sound cue looping (loop is shorter than fade up)

And, if you set up a hot-key with Rick Walsh’s “Create Fade in” script, then all you have to do is set your final levels in your cue
And hit the hot-key while the cue is highlighted and a 5 second fade up to the levels will be built automagically for you with the initial cue levels reduced to -inf. Then just adjust the time and fade curve to taste and bob’s your uncle.
You can find the script on the figure53 wiki pages.

While this behavior has been requested, and may be added in the
future, currently the integrated fade is NOT repeated on loops. (For
this very reason.)

So if you want to use the integrated fade you can feel free to do that.

You can ditch the first fade cue and just set the initial volume of
the audio cue to silence. In other words, the levels tab of the audio
cue shows where the volume starts when he cue begins to play. Fade
cues are then used to change that volume to something else. This way
it can start at silence, and you can use a single fade cue to fade it
up.

Best,
Chris

Thanks for all the input, guys. I was absolutely overthinking it: all
I really needed to do was set the crosspoints on the audio cue to -inf
and then fire an upfade. I almost feel silly thinking about doing it
the way I was trying to. And good to know that the integrated fades
don't loop!

Thanks again, guys. Such a minor problem, major outpouring of support.
