Couple of Qs please.

Is it possible to overlay several images over each other at FULL Opacity?  Lowering it seems to be the only way to do it. (IE, Background with Some text on a 2nd image etc)

Also, What does the Layers facility do?  Ive tried changing from Top to Bottom & numbers etc, doesn't seem to do anything.  Im sure it does can someone explain how one would use it.
Thank You.

If you are using Version 3, there is a Titles feature in drop down menu of the Video Effects tab that will let you layer text over anything. Just look for it when you have the cue selected. In version 2 or for other overlaid images, you can output the image with transparent space using an alpha channel. For still images, you want to use the PNG format. Video can be overlaid with transparency using ProRes 4444. Keep in mind you have to build transparent space in the source. If you fill things with white or black, you will not get transparency.

Ordinarily, when you launch a new Video cue, it will lay on top of the currently running cue obscuring it.. QLab has the ability to layer video images up to 1000 layers so you can put a video _under_ the current cue. One trick to crossfades is to start your new cue under and then fade out the current cue. In V3, if you set the layer to ‘bottom’ for all cues, this will happen automatically. V2 requires a little more thought.

Hope that helps!

Thanks Mike.
Re the layers, what is the use of having layers, if you can only see 1 video at a time.
Again I may be missing something.

Thank you.

Not everybody uses full screen video, nor fully opaque video. If using images of varying sizes, or images with transparency or at varying opacity, layers become critical. Even for something as simple as crossfading videos requires knowing which video is on what layer, so that you can either fade the top video in, or fade the top video out, depending on your desired workflow.

You can also use layers for on the fly animations using translation and scale.  So you can have one smaller graphic pass ‘behind’ another one or a small graphic fly ‘over’ a background.
