I apologize in advance: I've just been using QLab for a few weeks, so
my understanding's still at a fairly basic level. But I have a cue
scenario I just can't figure out. I have a moment in a show where I
have (let's say) Song 1 in an audio cue, then a Fade cue to duck it
under dialogue, then a Fade cue to bring it back up to it's original
level, and then when that song is done playing I'd like Song 2 to
start. I can't figure out a solution to needing both Fade cues to be
called at different times during each performance (therefore making
pre and post-waits useless within the Song 1 cues), but still having
Song 2 auto-follow Song 1.

My best idea was to group all the cues previous to the Song 2 cue, and
have an auto-follow on the group cue, but it appears group cue auto-
continues and auto-follows just skip to the next thing in the group,
not the next cue outside of the group. (Am I making any sense?)
Anyway, I get the sense there's a fairly simple solution here, I just
can't find it after playing around with Pre-and-Post-Waits and Group
Cues.

Thanks in advance for your help!

If I understand you properly, here is what you do.

1) Put song 1 and 2 in a "Song Group" with an auto follow between them
2) Build your first, second (and third?) fade cue in the timeline below the Song Group and make the Song Group the target.

This will allow you to fade the volume of the entire group

Not too tough if I understand what you're looking for...

Close, but that should be an auto-follow instead of an auto-continue. Note that the group cue's mode is set to "Fire first child and go to next cue".

I personally like Auto Continue better so that I can have control over the timing of the cues.  But to each his own!
