Has anyone had any luck using QLab to send scene changes to a Yamaha CL5 console? The network is working fine, I can use Dante Controler, CL Editor, Dante Virtual Soundcard with Nuendo Live and any of the other applications that work with the Dante network. I just can't figure out how to make QLab talk to it.

MIDI Program change?

Yea, I'm trying to use midi program change. My old console was a Yamaha DM2000 and I used midi program change with it successfully. It used a USB connector and was fairly easy to set up for any type of midi configuration including using it as a control surface for Pro Tools. The new CL series uses an ethernet network and has some networking quirks that are hard to figure out.

I've always just used a simple USB MIDI interface on the mac.

According to the manual you can select either the 5 pin MIDI on the console as the receiving port to a port on a card in slot 1 only.

Sorry that should read the 5 pin MIDI on the console  OR a port on a card in slot 1 only

Oh, so the Dante network doesn't pass midi information. That's too bad. I was trying not to have to add another device to the setup. Thanks for that info. I'll have to look for a cheap midi interface.

Dante doesn't pass midi.
You can use the network control port on the cl5 to receive midi or the midi ports but not the dante network ports.

Or download the MIDI network driver and use the network control port. This is similar to the USB connection you were using with the DM2000

Thanks. I'll try it.I already bought an interface and got it working but maybe I can return it.

I know this is an old topic, but now I'm faced with questions similar to the original poster.

I have the Yamaha DME-Network Driver on the mac. After adding the IP for the console to the network driver control panel a device showed up within the Audio Midi utility and a corresponding port shows up as available in workspace settings under midi patch. However, no matter what I try, I can neither get the CL to send midi note-on to QLab as a GO nor get the CL to see any midi I try to send out of QLab.

As far as I am aware you can't use the DME-N driver like this. The CL
series console remote software doesn't use it, whatever support is
needed is built directly in to the offline editor.

Yamaha's documenation only mentions control over the conventional MIDI
ports and doesn't mention end user use of the protocols for control
over ethernet at all.
