I am looking at the QU-16 as a possible board for the black box theater in the facility where I work.  In looking through the documentation and searching online, it looks the USB input on the QU-16 could be used as a soundcard for Qlab 3 outputs.  Has anyone had experience with this?  I like the idea of one less device and cable set in the signal path.  Any downsides to using the USB outputs on our MacMini instead of the Firewire Port?

Thanks,
George

That should work fine... I have Qu but yet to try Qlab. Someone tried it yet? Qu works well with Pro Tools!

I, and many others I know, use the USB on a mac mini with an 01v96i and qlab with great success, so it should be eqally successful with the QU. The Yamaha desk also receives midi over USB from Qlab to control mutes, level etc.- I don't know if that is the case with the QU16.

I've run Qlab direct through my QU-24 over USB. Great and reliable. I've only done it this way for one show so far, but have confidence that it will work going forward. One downside so far is that I have to look into how to assign outputs to the stereo channels on the console, to avoid eating up my mic preamps.

Hey George,

I'm also using a QU-24 and use 8 tracks of playback in a musical. The my then primary soundcard, a Motu UltraLite mk3 is resting on the shelf since the third show, haven't had even a tiniest glitch.
I was lazy, so I just used the first channels for USB, and plugged the wireless bodypacks starting from ch 9, but _theoretically_ if you tell Qlab to output audio to  channels 17/18 on your QU16, it _should_ appear on St1, and so on upwards. But it's just thinking without having a QU nearby...
