tomorrow i need to start firing some cues on an ETC Congo Junior with either MSC or OSC from QLab 3...

unfortunately the Congo Family user manual seems less than stellar, and the QLab documentation isn't much help on this front either.

if using MSC, how do the Q Number, Q List, and Q Path map onto ETC's jargon world? i'm guessing that Q Number -> Preset, and Q List -> Sequence ???

and if using OSC instead, how do you specify a specific sequence/preset to fire?

we're running out of time, so any prompt help much appreciated!

Did you try Google, eg: "msc congo junior"? p974 of this link seems to cover it: http://www.etcconnect.com/WorkArea/DownloadAsset.aspx?id=10737461354.

There is a fantastic document that does cover MSC (there's no reason for QLab to have to explain how it works): http://www.richmondsounddesign.com/docs/midi-show-control-specification.pdf.

You can tell by the lack of 00 in ETC's SysEx that Q_list and Q_path are not used (for that desk).

There's this page for Eos consoles: http://www.etcconnect.com/Support/Articles/Understanding-the-MSC-Commands-Eos-Family-Receives-and-Transmits.aspx, and this one for Expression & Obsession: https://www.etcconnect.com/Support/Articles/MIDI-Show-Control-MSC-In-Depth-Programming-Information-for-Obsession-and-Expression.aspx. I don't know where Congo sits in their product line though.

Andy and I also discovered that the Congo Junior has a very thorough OSC implementation that works nicely with QLab. I don't have Internet access on my laptop at the moment so I cannot find the documentation. But we found it online rather quickly when we looked...

Good luck

thanks everyone.

i do have Google-fu, i do have the Congo family manual, and i do have a working knowledge of MIDI.

i guess i should have been more specific but i'm seriously up against it and the sudden need to control an emergency replacement lighting desk was something that fell from heaven/hell at the end of yesterday's long day of teching. sound and video are my thing and i don't normally have much to do with running or controlling lights.

what i need to do is to be able to fire specific lighting cues on the Congo Junior with high precision. it is simply not clear from the bits of documentation that i perused in my bleary-eyed state late last night after a day of tech exactly what parameters in the MIDI/MSC cue of QLab that i needed to use.

i also have the option of using OSC over ethernet, which i assume would give me better precision. i haven't done any OSC stuff before though, hence my cry for help. i'm just hoping to minimise the amount of trial and error on a last day of tech that is already too full...
