Hi, the iPad remote can be used on two iPad in the same apple account?

QLab Remote for iPad works just like any iPad app, so you should be able to install it on two iPads. Its connection with QLab is over the local network, and doesn't look for an Apple ID, just available QLab workspaces on your network.

FYI the maximum number of devices per Apple ID is 10 as far as I
remember that includes desktop machines and iOS devices.

The maximum number of iOS devices you can sync with any one
instance of iTunes is 5.

Apple are basically banking on there being a lot of personal
information and credit card information associated with the Apple ID
therefore individuals not wanting to have devices owned by people other
than themselves registered with the Apple ID. It's a fairly pragmatic
'app is licensed to person not to device' choice.

If you wish to deploy to larger number of iPads or not have the apps
associated with an Apple ID then you need the Apple Configurator
software and you need to buy apps via the Apple volume purchase program
for business at which point you'd be paying for once license per
device. Unfortunately this is only available in certain regions mainly
the US. It's not available in the UK for example.

How does the Remote-app knows QLab workspaces?
Is it done by Bonjour?

And:
if the iPad is on, say, 172.102.100.250, does it connect to a QLab workspace on 172.102.116.11?
Or has the iPad to be on the same sub-net, here: 172.102.116.x, as the workspace?

Yes, or you can enter the information in manually.

It has to be on the same local network; I'm rusty with subnets, but the basic idea is: local network.

I've tested out the iPad remote on a clamped down network with different subnets (wired network vs mobile network). Because of the "Other" feature, I was able to specify the IP address of my QLab station and everything worked perfectly.

Hi Kelly,

Thanks for testing!

So you have to actively suply the exact address of the QLab workspace to remote, if it's not on the same sub-net?
No "by chance" or "by accident" getting to the wrong (subnet-wise) instance?

Wonderfull!

If you can ping the computer, seems like you can connect. The beauty of TCP/IP.
