How are folks feeling about Qlab on Tahoe?  Our IT department is wanting to force all of our machines to Tahoe in about a month.  We do mostly one off events so it’s not like we have a show that’s running, but it makes me nervous for sure.

If it were me, I would tell your IT department to cool it.

QLab on Tahoe is largely fine, but Tahoe itself is a mess and if anyone forced me to use it, I would want a really compelling reason for why. “Because IT likes consistency” is not a good reason.

I'm considering purchasing a MacBook Pro with M5 chip.
I assume it will come with Tahoe installed... Is Tahoe, still a mess?
Should I wait, since my existing MacBook is able to run Qlab 5.5.9 no problem, while running
Sonoma, since one of my theater directors is a big fan of Qlab 4. I know I can save a Qlab 4 as Qlab 5,
but he still needs to learn that.

Apple has made a few small improvements to Tahoe, although in my opinion it’s not really going to be possible to address all of Tahoe’s issues until the next major release of macOS at the earliest.

Official Figure 53 advice is always to wait until at least the “x.1” release of macOS which has come and gone, so as long as you don’t need to use QLab 4, you can absolutely use Tahoe without issues.

My personal position is going to be trying to skip Tahoe entirely and hope that Apple chooses to roll back some of their more aggressive design choices.

But again, if you need a new Mac it’s going to run Tahoe, and that’s going to be just fine.
