Hello all,

Thanks for the very informative group. I've learned a lot perusing the archives.

I use QLab 2 (last version) for playback of digital video files from a MacBook Pro running Lion.  This past weekend I received a film that uses the AVdn codec from Avid, 1920 x 1080 resolution. I downloaded the Quicktime components from Avid and it plays fine in QT player.

However, when I run it from QLab video looks great but alas no audio; everything is greyed out in audio levels tab.

Audio codec is identified as Linear PCM.

Are there different components I need to download for QLab 2 to use the codec?  Do I need to upgrade to 3? I am hesitant to upgrade just before a show.

Full disclosure, I am an abject freeloader, using the unlicensed version for one-off events.  All decidedly non-profit (not just not for profit).

Thanks for the help,

Steve

Compressor is like $50 which even most freeloaders can afford. That would allow you to save as an alternate codec.

Also QLab rental licenses are around $3/day which would allow you to do neat things like open saved files.

I'm not particularly familiar with that codec, but in general version 3 supports far fewer codecs than version 2, so upgrading won't be helpful for this case.

Version 2 uses QuickTime, and in theory should decode anything that can be decoded by QuickTime. There are some limitations, however, in the sense that QLab requires decoding audio on a background thread, and not all codecs support this. This might be happening here, in which case QLab is decoding the video but ignoring the audio.

Transcoding to a different format may be the best way to go.

Best,
Chris
