Panasonic projector commands not PJLink

Hello everyone!
I have a question regarding sending a command from QLab to our Panasonic PT-DZ110XE.
Essentially the show requires two projection surfaces -
one at the start of the show where a grey curtain at the front of the stage will be used.
And then later another curtain right at the back of the room which is 10 meters away.

So, we could manually adjust that in the Panasonic's web browser control but as you can't input the number in the data field it'll be clicking numerous times to change the focus value.

Question is - has anyone used a script to do this in QLab?
The focus message doesn't exist in the PJLink protocol so Projector Remote is no help there. As we normally use it to power on and off and open shutters.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated as always!

Cheers, J :)

You can use RS232 to do focus control (and lens shift and so on if you want that too).
This means a serial connection to the projector (likely a USB to Serial adapter), as well as a script to use something like CoolTerm to send the serial commands.

Hey Joe!

Thanks for the heads up with CoolTerm.
I've never used RS232 before.
Any pointers as to how we would find the right command to send from Qlab?
A tutorial or such?

Many thanks again John

This http://www.chrisgrote.com/2015/01/qlab-serial-projector-control-with.html explains it fairly clearly.
This ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/panasonic/drivers/pbts/manuals/OM_PT-DW5100.D5700.D4000RS232C.pdf shows the available ocmmands for one of the Panasonics.

You do have to figure out how to phrase what you want, set up the ports properly, get a serial adapter and so on.

I messed with this stuff a lot. The biggest issue is getting the correct Serial Adapter and RS232 cable (crossover or not). Here is a link to a QLab 3 workspace that I got working with my Viewsonic projectors.

Nizer shared a bundled workspace and scripts used to do this.
It's a bit of a pain to look up the hex codes to send, and if you are adjusting focus, you'll have to figure out how to get to the same focus setting each time.
Would be nice if you could store focus in two different user settings, and call them up or each set up, but not sure that unit works like that.
But using what he worked out and a serial connection, you can definitely change the focus and almost anything else once you get the right hex in place.
