Hi,

I've just been building a QLab system with two Mac Mini's ( current version ) and two RME Fireface 400's which I've used before with great success, but it seems that there are some compatibility problems with the current Mac Mini firewire chip and the RME kit - has anyone else experienced these issues?

My next choice of interface is the Fireface UC or MH 2882, but my dealer says that he's had issues with MH interfaces and poor support in the UK, are there any issues with these interfaces that are well know, especially with the current Mac Mini .....what should be my next go-to interface?

Kind regards

Oliver.

I'll let the guys in the UK speak to the support in the UK, but I have probably done 150 productions (thats 150 unique designs) in the past 3 years with MacIntel Mini's and MH 2882's. I am using the original Intel core single mini so I can't site direct experience with the newest Mini.

That being said I am on two MH user lists with very heavy traffic and cannot recall any significant discussion about the current Mini.

I can speak on Fireface 800s on the FW800 bus on the current Mac minis.....Only weird thing thus far has been MIDI. Power sequence: MIDI Solutions F8 and RME, then boot Macs. Generating MIDI in the F8 shows up at the RME according to theRME's  MIDI IN light, but no output to the computer of any MIDI messages...then...hot unplug/replugging of any MIDI pre-RME suddenly floods the mac with sequential messages (notes or pitch wheel - can't recall the specific events) - but then the RME seems to be passing things just fine after that. Can't speak on MIDI output other than, again, I see the lights-a-flashin.

The problem seems to be less of an issue with the Fireface 800 as far as I can tell.

The solution seems to be running the Fireface 400 through another device such as a hard drive so that the Fireface see's the chipset in the drive rather than the chipset in the Mac - but it's not an acceptable situation for a show rack!

Oliver.
