I'm working with a setup where I have one Mac Mini running video content and another running audio content. Both Mac's are the same spec (M2 Pro units) running OS Sequoia.

The Video Mac can quite happily send OSC commands to the Audio Mac, however the Audio Mac can't seem to trigger the Video Mac - which is what we need to happen.

While there is a world where I can swap the machines over, I'd rather try and understand the problem and hopefully fix it.

In the Network settings for QLab, the Video machine is aware that the Audio machine is on the networkIMG_2622.jpeg
However the Audio mac does not seem to be aware that the Video mac is on the network

Both were machines were newly set up last weekend ahead of rehearsals and I'm pretty certain I did all of the same steps as advised by QLab.

I've tried to go through and check all network settings, OSC passcodes, Security & Privacy options etc but I am not sure what is going on.

Any thoughts or advice much appreciated.

Cheers

there is a bug with macOS 15 that means you have to toggle local network access for qlab after each restart for certain network things to work - we’ve had to write a script to do it on some jobs

I was considering doing something similar to get around the port limitations so I’m interested to hear how this works out.

Wireshark your Ethernet ports and double verify you’re getting traffic both ways? I’ve had traffic not make if out the Mac in 15.2.  Solution is to log out and back in.

For what it’s worth, we received one report yesterday that updating to macOS 15.3 resolved a similar networking issue.

But take that with a grain of salt as it’s only one report and I don’t have specific internal tests to reference

FWIW I’ve heard a rumour that adding NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription to your info.plist fixes this problem - but not 100% certain this is true

That addition will be coming in 5.4.9, which we’re preparing for release soon…maybe even today?

Thanks so much for all the quick responses. The Local Network toggle resolves the issue and has meant I'm not going to sit up late doing a fresh install! Interesting that the problem only manifested on one computer and not the other.

I'm going with the quick fix for now but will look into the other suggestions going forward.

Cheers

Any chance anyone has figured out a solution to this that does NOT involve un-toggling and re-toggling the local network setting after every restart? It does fix the problem for me but I really do not want to ask the stage manager to do that once the run of the show starts. I’m on Sequoia 15.3.1 and QLab 5.5.5.

Should I just downgrade the computer to an older OS?

I have not encountered this problem in many moons. Anecdotally, the first few months of Sequoia releases were messy about network security settings, but it seems to have been ironed out in later ones. I'm on 15.6.

Alec (and others), are you running shows on Sequoia without having to mess with local network permissions but they still work reliably on every boot?

I thought that was still an issue to be concerned about.

That's correct- I have several show Macs on 15.6 doing network stuff, and can't think of any recent QLab issues that can be blamed on local network permissions. Definitely was a problem earlier this year on early Sequoia and especially in ETCnomad. In my experience those issues are now fixed.

Good news! I talked to Cricket at QLab support and she said that 15.3 possessed this specific bug and that an update to 15.7 does the trick, which it did. So it was just that specific OS version that was the problem.
