Hello again guys,

I would love to know how to find out if I can have QLab tell the Blackmagic Videohub Control software to change Sources/Destinations.

Basically: tell Blackmagic Videohub Control to change the Lobby TVs (Destination 1) from Source 5 (a logo) to Source 2 (the live stage camera).

Thanks!

Looks like you can telnet into it which would probably be the easiest way to control it via an applescript.

I think the telnet is only for reading and writing the input/output text labels. Control and switching is via their text based TCP protocol. It's pretty well documented though. That would make it a bit hard for applescript to manage I think.

Which VideoHub have you got?

I have created some software to do exactly this. It’s been running installed in a venue for about 12 months now with no issues.

You can find the Videohub protocol at the end of its manual – it is a simple plain text TCP protocol.

I have not released my software publicly yet – it’s currently in private beta. I’ll have a new version ready in about 24 hours, and email you a copy to try out.
It can send TCP and UDP commands, triggered by OSC from QLab.

This would be great.  I would love to try this out, does it work with ATEM switchers or just videohubs?

Thanks,
Alexander

Currently, it controls anything with a documented TCP or UDP protocol.
I’m planning to add ATEM support through their SDK, but have had more important things to do. If I know people will find it useful, I’ll bump it up my list.

Dear Douglas,

It is great you are developing a software to control switchers and video Hubs via qlab ,definitely I need to try and buy it.

I need to ask you a question you may help me in that.

I am working in a project for children museum where I want t project 27 monitors and video projectors  all over the rooms plus dmx lighting and sound.
All that I need it to me automated ... I was thinknig to use qlab for the que and sequence, can you please tell me the best way to do that and I am searching also for the system to be stable.

Many Thanks

Hi Klavs and others,

In the years since I originally set out to build this product, I was not able to work out a sensible pricing and business model that would support the development required and provide a high standard of support. I learned that trying to build a product that could convert any protocol to any other protocol had a lot more layers of complexity than I expected. While I did have a simple working app that's been reliable enough for a few people to still use to this day, I'm not able to provide any support or bug fixes while trying to maintain a healthy work/life balance with a full-time job.

An alternate solution I've seen a lot of people use is Bitfocus Companion. It's an open source Electron based Mac/Windows app that allows you to program shortcut buttons on an Elgato Stream Deck. However, even without the hardware you can configure it to receive OSC from QLab to trigger virtual buttons, which then send commands to a wide range of supported devices like Blackmagic Videohubs. I've used it personally on a few large scale events with Disguise media servers and Videohubs, but I'm sure it will work smoothly with QLab too.

Hopefully that's helpful.

Hi, not sure if you're still stuck, but I have a workspace here that uses bit focus companion to patch inputs to outputs in a video hub, with Qlab sending OSC messages that press the buttons in companion. A streamdeck is not needed, it just uses the emulator within companion. Is that of interest? I can probably get time to upload it later today...

Attached here. The zip file contains the qlab workspace and a config file for companion
