We're running several shows using QLab 3 on three different MacBook Pros (one for each show).
The sound card is a focusrite Scarlett 18i20 but only one of the computers can "see" it.
Scarlett mix control won't open on the two problem MacBooks.
Any ideas?

If Mix control isn't loading it means that either the machine is not 'connecting' to the soundcard, or for some reason the driver/software is not starting correctly.
Make sure you are using the correct version of the software for both the OS and the Firmware on the Focusrite.
Try different usb ports on the Macs,
Try swapping the USB leads.

I must say that I have problems With our Saffire Pro 40 and our Mac Mini, almost every time it starts up the sound card is not recognised.  Just because the Firewire light on the front of the unit is on, does not mean the card is up and running.
We always boot up the machine, and then turn on the soundcard afterwards, then open QLAB, this is the only way we have found it to work reliably.
However, that is Firewire not USB, but tbh It's probably a software bug / An OSX/core sound/something bug.

Hope this is helpful.

What OS are you on?
I have a Saffire that just stopped showing up one day, I left it in a cupboard for a year and a half, thought I'd try it out before dumping it and, sure enough it magically started working again and I haven't had any problems since.
Check your drivers and firmware updates too.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions. We've copied all three shows onto the "happy" MacBook Pro and it's working fine so I think I'll wait till we've finished the run before I start tinkering. FYI The unhappy MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.8.5 but then so is the happy one ...
