Greetings Qlabers,

I have a project coming (sooner then I would like), that involves
syncing vidoe/audio/lighting together. Now the video/audio part is
easy, what I'm having trouble with is finding software that will act
as my video/audio playback from my MAC, but also send out a MIDI or
SMPTE timecode that I can connect to an ETC ION so that all the
lighting cues are perfectly synced. Any one done this w/Qlab before?
Any suggestions on which version to get, or should I just pull up my
big girl panties, bite the bullet and get the bundle? Thanks in
advance.

Cheers.

Hi Travis,

Good to hear from you; welcome to the list. QLab's MTC Cue will send
out MIDI Timecode.

If you only need 2 channels of audio, you won't need the Pro Audio
license. Otherwise, to do audio, video, and MIDI, you'd need the Pro
Bundle.

Best,
Chris

Well, yes, I do this all the time. And of course I use QLab - why would I
use anything else? Yes, you need the Pro bundle, but you can rent if if you
can't afford to buy outright. The National Theatre Of Great Britain are
using QLab on one of my shows and it's triggering a Catalyst system for
video and an Ion for lighting where required. Bear in mind that the Ion uses
ACN and to get it to respond to MSC commands needs a couple of extra steps
(in the Ion, not QLab.)

It all works perfectly.

If you are using V.1 or V.2 you could hook up midi between the Ion and your Q-Lab rig, then go into the ion settings and turn on the midi show control,  then just trigger the ion from q-lab with MSC.

Or if you are running q-lab V.2 you can use MTC to trigger the Ion (make sure to enable time cod in the Ion settings)

My process for this sort of show is almost always to send MSC commands
for each cue from Qlab to the light board - for me (where I'm
generally doing both lighting and show control in this venue) I'd
rather have one place that I can see all the cues and their time
relationship...

Of course if it's a large operation where LX is really a department....
