Hello friends

This is your annual reminder that while we believe QLab to be compatible with the latest macOS release, we enthusiastically recommend against using a “x.0” release of macOS on any Mac that’s running or about to be running a live show.

macOS Mojave 10.14.0 might be perfectly stable, or it might not be. We cannot control that, and no amount of anecdotal data gathered over the public beta period can inspire genuine confidence.

Please err on the side of caution, and at least wait until 10.14.1.

Best
Sam

I want to echo Sam’s words of general caution, and add a specific word of specific caution:

If you _do_ choose to live on the edge and install Mojave, you may be asked for permission to access the camera and/or the microphone. If you decline to provide that permission, of course, QLab will not be able to access them. From a privacy standpoint, I am firmly in favor of this feature, but it does present a challenge when working with media inputs.

It’s not immediately clear to me which devices this restriction applies to. It seems so far to be limited to the built-in FaceTime camera and microphone, but that could change at any point; the documentation makes it sound more like it was meant to apply to all AVFoundation- and CoreAudio-based input, which would include everything except Blackmagic and Syphon for video input.

(If you find yourself in a corner where QLab needs permission to a device and doesn’t have it, you can manage those permissions by going to System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> Privacy.)

Aside from that specific workflow hiccup, I haven’t run into any problems throughout the Mojave developer preview period, aside from a couple Dark Mode issues that Apple has since fixed. But that doesn’t mean I would recommend upgrading right away—as Sam said, we just don’t have enough data yet.

Cheers,
Sean

Hi sam, I found a problem in the MacOS Mojave system. The waveform of the audio is not displayed correctly. Will you fix it in the next version?

Hello Sound Man Miller

Can you elaborate on your discovery, please? In what way does the waveform display differ between macOS High Sierra and macOS Mojave?

I’d love to see screen shots if possible.

Thanks
Sam

In my quick experimentation, the waveform looks roughly correct, just doesn't seem to line up with the audio. I'll try and capture a quick video later on.

I was just checking up on an unrelated piece of software in Mojave, but I did notice if it's important to anyone that Dante Controller seems very broken. The main window is fine, but any other windows open as a transparent outline.

A quick video of what I see. Looks like the waveform has the wrong horizontal scale or similar.

Could that characteristic be related to what I noticed with changed tempo?

Thanks Richard,

Here is a beta build that should fix this issue, if folks would like to try it:

Best,
Chris
