Hello all

We have recently discovered that video effects in QLab have been broken in macOS 12.2.1, but only on Macs using M1 Max (and possibly M1 Pro) processors.

QLab video effects are still working properly for Macs using other versions of macOS and Macs using Intel or regular M1 processors.

We are pursuing this issue and hope to release an update to correct it as soon as possible. Until that time, folks who need to use video effects should either avoid updating beyond macOS 12.2.0 or avoid using M1 Max and M1 Pro based Macs.

Best
Sam

An update:

We now know this is a problem on Apple’s side. We’re not sure whether or not there’s anything we can do about it. We’re still exploring.

We now believe this problem actually started in macOS 12.2.0. If you are using a Mac with an M1 Max processor and need to use video effects in QLab, please do NOT update past macOS 12.1.x.

If you are using a Mac with an M1 Pro processor, we would love to know if video effects work for you. Please contact sup...@figure53.com if you have any knowledge on the matter.

If you have an M1 Pro Mac and can test this but no video license, please contact me directly.

Thanks so much

Hello

I have an M1 pro 16” - just tested putting exposure to full on a video file and it works as expected.

Thank you, Richard.

We have confirmation from another person as well.

So it looks like we can now describe the problem as:

Core Image effects in OpenGL-based contexts are not working on Macs which have an M1 Max processor and are running macOS 12.2.x.

Onwards,
Sam

Can I confirm that this only is a problem with the effects on the "video effects" tab? Things like scaling, surface warping, etc are still ok?

Yes, by “video effects” I mean… er… video effects. The contents of the “Video Effects” tab in the inspector is the only part of QLab experiencing trouble, as far as we’re aware.

Ok - that’s what I thought, but I wanted to be sure.

Hi !

On my M1 Max MBP 16'' (OSX 12.2.1), video effects in QLab seem to work as expected...
Let me know if I can do some more tests to help !

Regards,

Jérémie
