Hi All

Have had a funny issue with an AJA HA5 4K which I suspect may be a limitation of the rather old Mac Pro rather than qlab but would be good to get thoughts

We are taking mini display port from Mac Pro into the AJA and then from this feeding two 20k Epsom projectors and a 10k barco over SDI

With the AJA set to it’s standard (4k) resolution in display preferences everything works as expected until we attempt to send content from qlab (creating a single surface with the three quadrants arranged as partial screens), once we display the grid the barco continues to output but the two Epsoms blank themselves out.

Reducing the resolution of the AJA in display preferences fixes the issue but isn’t ideal for us - does anyone have any ideas what could be causing the above?

Richard

Hi Richard,

I've had issues with Blackmagic Micro converters before. They were connected to a Datapath X4 and if I send out 100% white (255 white) eg. a grid or something else like the mouse-pointer the SDI connection would blank out - signal lost. So the white levels were clipping and resulting in a signal lost. I was working in Resolume Arena at that time and lowering the master-brightness resolved this issue.

I know it has seemingly nothing to do with your situation with the AJA HA5-4K but hey worth a shot isn't it? Perhaps same 'illegal' SDI-white values that are not being clipped properly by the AJA?

And is it possible to reduce the resolution while still maintining the quadrant-split option of the HA5-4k? You mean staying at 4k but lowering the framerate? Once switched to 1080p60 the AJA functions as a splitter, right? I had lots of other problems with the HA5-4k before so I get a sour look on my face when I think about them.

Good luck! Best Daan
