I'm using ScreenFlow 6.2.2 on a new 15"MBP (3.1GHz i7, 16 GB Ram, Radeon Pro 560, 2 TB SSD) to capture the audio and video from a long sequence (about 20 minutes) in QLab4 to share w/ collaborators via dropbox.

The output from QLab is nice and smooth, but video fades recorded w/ ScreenFlow are jerky, even with all the knobs cranked up.  Is recording and playing back at the same time too much for the computer?  Is dropbox compressing the mp4 file?

Any suggestions on how to get a smooth screen recording of a QLab sequence?

Thanks!

If your colleagues don't need full size screen recordings, record from the audition window.

They do need full screen recordings.

As a comparison try screen recording wih QuickTime Player

You will need to start the recording before you run a cue from QLab.

This will make a recording at around 60fps. This should allow you to,ascertain if there is anything in screenflow which is bogging things down.

Also, if you open activity monitor while recording you may be able to work out where the bottleneck is ocurring

I've had good luck using Syphon Recorder. With the Recorder application running you'll get an option to add a Syphon output in the settings for the surface you want to record in QLab. Then you can just start the recording and play through your sequence. It'll give you a file in a few of the Apple codecs that you can convert to H264 or whatever format your collaborators need.
