Hello. I'm new to the group and new to QLabs. Quick question. My current school's theater setup doesn't have an HDMI hardline from the control booth to the rear projector on the stage. Currently we are projecting through an Apple TV. I'm looking in Qlabs to set my Video Outputs and don't see an option to video out to the Apple TV while I'm currently connected from macbook to the Apple TV. I do see the Video Output choice for the external monitor that I have connected. Am I missing something? I'm hoping the answer is not "you need to be physically connected to the projector" Thank you

Hi Brian

QLab does not support output via Apple TV. AirPlay is not designed for live theatrical use; it has terrible and sometimes variable latency, it does not guarantee preservation of picture quality, and it’s generally built for situations where “good enough” is good enough, which is not how most folks who use QLab operate.

Wires are always best. I encourage you to explore HDBaseT or HDMI-over-fiber extenders/converters.

If you absolutely cannot run a wire, you could use a pro-grade wireless video transmitter like the Teradek Bolt. I’m sure there are others like it, that’s just the one I know.

Best

Thanks, Sam. Do you know if the Teradek Bolt allows Qlabs to ID the rear projector?

The Mac sees the Bolt as the attached display. It has no idea what’s on the other end.

You could look into using the NDI monitor app on the Apple TV, and having QLab output via NDI.

There is also an NDI app for Apple TV.

I have used for situations where latency concerns did not exist.

Thanks, Seablade and Brian. I'll see how NDI Monitory TV App works for us.
