Hi,

I'm using QLab 3 and an M-Audio Firewire 610 interface. I am having trouble assigning each of my five channels of audio to their own channel. I see under the "Device and Levels" tab there is a routing matrix, but I can't figure out how to use this to assign each file, #1-5, to the desired speaker.

Do I need a pro license to adjust the routing properly?

Thanks again.

Hi Sandy,

You'll need a license of some kind to use more than 2 speakers.

After you have that installed, this video should help explain how the routing works:

Hi,

I have the Pro Bundle license installed.

We edited the routing matrix to assign cues 7-11. Inputs 1-6 are now greyed out.

We're not getting sound out to any of our 5 speakers.

Hi Sandy,

Hm, it sounds like you'll need to trace the routing at each step to make sure it's going where you think it's going.

Specifically, check:

1) The cue's level matrix, where you route the channels of the file to the channels of the cue, and
2) The device's level matrix, where you route the channels of the cue to the channels of the device.

Beyond that, some devices also have their own routing options in the driver. If yours does, you'll need to check that too.

Best,
Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks for the steps. That helped and I was able to setup the routers correctly. I'm attaching screen grabs so you can check if they seem ok!

The odd thing is, I'm still getting audio out of all the speakers.

I have a m-audio 610, with 1/4" cables in lines 3-7. Firewire to macpro.

Any other things I can try?

Thank you!

Sandy

Have you installed the MAudio control panel for the unit?

If you have not, be sure to do so. The control panel can then be accessed under settings > maudio something something something.

Next check the routing for the actual unit. There are four tabs (Analogue Out 1&2 , 3&4 ... ) that can be routed. Make sure that you only have the first two software returns up on Analogue 1&2 ... Software Return 3&4 up on Analogue 3&4 ... etc etc. Here you'll also be able to monitor what's actually being sent to the unit. So try playing a file and send it to only one output. Now can you then see if its going to the correct location in your 610.

Kelly,

Thank you ever so much. Your advice really helped me. I adjusted M-Audio, tested one track and have it coming out 1 speaker. Yea! On to test the rest.

Gratefully,
Sandy

My pleasure! Glad we can help one another!

Another note about the control panel (just glancing at the user manual, I don't own a 610), it looks like you can change which channels the front volume knob adjusts. Meaning you can sluff it off to the SPIF channels (Channels 7&8), protecting yourself from a possible adjustment of channels 1 and 2.
