A fellow Qlab user & list member invited me over to his current venue yesterday to lay hands on the organization's brand new X32 console...

Via USB or FW, Qlab is able to access 32 outputs direct into the board.
Via the same USB  or FW connection, you can also catch 32 channels of audio (virtual soundcheck, show recording) into a DAW.
There is already an IPAD app that allows for fader control, MUTE, EQ, SENDS, etc...
There is already a PC app that allows for complete control of the console.
Mac app is coming.
6 band parametric EQ on each input / output. (4) stereo Insertable graphic EQs
4 effects processors
Sends on Faders button
Record up to any 2 anythings to a USB thumbdrive (direct outputs, auxes, mixes, ST L/R, etc...)
16 analog XLR outputs
6 analog TRS outputs
8 DCAs
6 or 8 mute group buttons
scrbbile strip labeling & coloring
User define keys that are being used to trigger Qlab GO, NEXT, PREVIOUS, etc...
User define encoders (might be useful for setting levels in Qlab at some point)
There are 3 or 4 banks for the UDK & UDE function so you actually have something like 24 UDK & 12 UDE at your disposal
Looks sorta like a Midas Pro
Everything feels solid

There are a few points on the console that need some firmware updating (to allow for more flexibility in the recall safe menu)

I left thinking a few things (assuming the console doesn't die, catch on fire, ruin a show)...

1. Buy a 32x32 USB / FW audio / midi interface for around $2500 & get the console for free.
2. Yamaha LS9 is dead @ it's price point now
3. Presonus Studio Live mixers are dead (with no flying faders & no midi) at any price
4. Yamaha M7CL is dead if an X48 is released

Now to see if the console can work without issues...

More soon,

Can it be configured via a "Studio Manager" style interface on a Mac?

PC only at the moment but apparently the Mac app is coming. I stopped into Guitar Center last night to work on some Yamaha Motif XF8 programming & they actually had an X32 on the display floor. Obviously it's available now & if you're interested, you might check your local dealer.

assuming it's not the usual behringer hit-and-miss, this looks like a very interesting piece of work.

i promise to try to get over my very VERY substantial anti-behringer bias if the reports come in that this thing really works.

but until then, give me a dante card in a ilive board (for non musicals) any day of the week. :)

I actually designed a musical on one of these a few months ago - a small company was moving to a bigger house and putting on their first amplified show, so this was what the budget afforded. I was nervous but it went OK.

It sounds really good - I was impressed by the preamps, and the quality of the processing. The compressor is great. Would honestly take it equally to an M7 for a straight music gig. Routing and setup are good, and the scribble strips are really wonderful.

For a musical, it isn't really an adequate console though. The recall safe options are not very granular, and its limited to 100 scenes. But for the price, it totally destroys the Presonus stuff. I doubt it will threaten Yamaha until it at the least proves its reliability. And I ran into a few bugs in the 1.02 firmware that came with it - including the inability to save shows to disk. Ouch. But as a 16-channel interface with some mixer functionality, it does well.

MIDI Trigger Qlab via the X32 or X32 compact:

Make sure the X32 is your midi device selected in the Qlab workspace setting. The X32 should be configured in the SETUP window, tab over to remote, Make sure Midi CC is selected and all midi control is controlled via the "card". The "card" is your USB in/out sound card.

On the X32, press "view" in the scenes group of buttons. On the "home" tab you can build cues based off of your prebuilt mix scenes (recorded in the scene tab), or they can be empty cues that do nothing but send midi triggers.

Before you should send midi to Qlab, be sure to disable the Cue change warning window and make it to where your next cue will automattically preload or cue up after you "go" on the previous cue. You should be able to alter these settings in the SETUP window under the "global" tab.

Lets say you want to trigger a sfx or sound pad in Qlab for a theatrical production or rock show and have it "go" simultaneously as the mix change:
Build a cue in the Home tab by labeling it and selecting a scene. Tab over to the furthest right tab in the scenes window called "midi". The scene you are building should be highlighted gray. Select program change. Make sure Channel 1 is selected for any cue triggering QLab. Now select a trigger number. After you select a number, tab back over to the home tab with your cue ready to hit "go".

In QLab under the basics tab of your Cue that you want to be linked, click the box on Midi Trigger, in the dropdown box select "program change", now put in the same trigger number that you chose for the cue in the x32. Once this is complete hit the "capture" button in Qlab and yellow fonted "waiting on midi" will appear.

Now hit GO on the scene in the X32 and the two cues will be linked, the yellow fonted words should now be gone. Recue the cue in the X32 to and test the trigger.

If you decide to go this route, be sure to recue any jumped SFX cues in Qlab in a live performance setting. The x32 will not allow you to refire a cue/scene it is already in.

I hope this helps someone out there.
