Hi,

I want to fade in title cues.
I've worked out how to fade them out but I've got no clue about fading in.
Please help!

Thanks Mic.
Can you walk me through how you got to this point?

Create a text cue (Title cue in QLab 3) and set its opacity to 0 in the geometry tab

Create a fade cue and drag the text cue to it to target (or number the text cue and type the target in (the example uses a)

Set the opacity of the fade cue to 100percent in the geometry tab

Set the fade time in the action time for the fade cue

Create a fire all group cue and put the cues inside it.

Thanks. I have done this and it's still not working.
What is a 'fire all group cue'?
Is that just a normal group cue? That's what I've done.

Hi Mic,

Don't worry - I figured it out. It's because I hadn't selected those auto cue arrow things on the far right!
Problem solved. Thanks for your help!

If you use a fire all group you dont need the auto cue arrow thingies.

Fire all children is on the mode tab of the group cue.

As in 'start all children simultaneously'?
I'm stuck again.

Hi again,

Now nothing is working.

I want to fade a line of text in, let it linger a few seconds, then fade it out.
And so on and so, line by line.

Can someone please walk me through this?

Hi Tim,

Can you described what changed to make things stop working since your previous message to Mic?

Perhaps you could also attach a copy of the QLab workspace you’re making.

Best,
C

Hi Chris,

I've attached 3 screenshots in order of success.
(Well actually only the first one works.)

1. fade up is good
2. this doesn't work
3. not working

Why will it fade in step 1, but then neither fade in or out in the other attempts?

Tim, on your second and third examples, you are firing your fade in and fade out at the same time.

Every cue with set to auto-continue (the downward pointing arrow) will fire the next cue beneath it simultaneously.

You want your title cue and your fade-in cue to fire together, but your fade out should be a separate cue.

Honestly, it sounds like you need to read the fine manual over at the Figure53 website.  The “getting started with qLab” document will get you where you need to go.  It’s under “Docs.”

Cheers!

Oh and one more thing.  You only need one text (or title) cue.  Your fade out should target the same cue that the fade in did.

1.  Text Cue (set to auto-continue)
2.  Fade in (targeting cue 1, for n seconds, set to auto-follow (the downward arrow with a circle on top))
3.  Fade Out (targeting cue 1, prewait by n seconds (your hold time), fade for n seconds, no auto-continue)

Cheers!

Hi Tim,

Joe had some good pointers — if still have trouble with it you can always send us the document itself (rather than screenshots) and we can tweak and send back a version you can inspect and see how we tweaked it.  (Via sup...@figure53.com )

Yes, Start all children simultaneously( the bounding box will be green when this mode is selected.)

In this screenshot cue 1 will fade a line of text up in 5 hold for 5 then fade in 5 and stop. (The fade out cue has a pre wait of 10secs to allow for the fade up and hold)

By nesting a copy of cue 1 with a pre wait of 15 you can automate as many lines of text as you want without manual intervention as in Q2 in the screenshot.

I have attached the workspace for you to edit as you want.

When you have mastered the basics of groups and fade cues, you might want to take a look at this to show what animated title cues in QLab are capable of:
