I know there are some Quartz Composer patches out there that can warp
an image for projecting on a sphere, e.g.
http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourke/miscellaneous/domemirror/warppatch//
Maybe this could be useful for a balloon too?

Some higher end projectors will have screen warping options built into
the projector settings. That might be easier than doing it in software.

i reckon you are in the netherlands?
the guy who runs (or used to run) this company www.boomerlabs.com used to do something similar.
I used to work with Andre Goos and Jorg Schellekens at DENZO.
