Good evening gang!

I've got Qlab 5.1 running on an M1 Mac, and using a Blackmagic UltraStudio Recorder 3g to get video from a handicam to a camera cue. The video inputs tab in settings shows the Recorder 3g to be (disconnected) and thus the cue won't run, but if I click Monitor I can see the feed perfectly fine. Why does Qlab think it's disconnected?

Hi Jacob,

Strange!

Does the device show up as connected in a different location in the popup menu?

Best,
C

Hallo! Strange is truly the word 🙃

The device does show up earlier but with a slightly different name (it says only UltraStudio Recorder 3G, and it's under the unselectable header of "Blackmagic Design") but while that one does allow the selection of resolution, it does not actually work. No feed shows up.

It has been the matter in qlab 4 as well that the device shows up twice in the video inputs, but selecting the "correct" one in v4 actually works. The "wrong" one also does not work in v4.

Strange..

Hi Jacob,

The reason you see the Ultrastudio twice in v4 is that QLab sees it two different ways. The one at the bottom under the Blackmagic Design section is the one we see as a Blackmagic device. However, if you install the Blackmagic webcam plugin (which Blackmagic provides to allow you to use your device as a webcam with software that doesn’t support Blackmagic specifically), you get it a second time listed above with the other webcams. In v5, we filter those webcams out of the list.

I see that you’ve written in to the support email address, which is great. I’m over there too, but also there are more support people there than here, so I’ll move further conversation over there as we determine what next steps to take.

Best,
C
