Hi Tyler,

Since we've now released QLab 4, and moved over to a new licensing system, we've finally ended support for QLab 2. While I know that's sad news, it's been a long time coming... QLab 3 was released 3.5 years ago, and in fact QLab 2 has not been compatible with the last two OS versions that Apple has released.

QLab 3 is still supported, and runs on computers running at least OS 10.8, while QLab 4 requires at least OS 10.10. If your computer is from 2007 or later, it should be able to run any OS from 10.8 onwards, so there are definitely options for all but the oldest of Macs. You can find a helpful chart of which OS versions work on which Mac models at https://eshop.macsales.com/guides/Mac_OS_X_Compatibility

As a very small company, we're at the limits of what we can support to support two versions of QLab across five different OS versions, and unfortunately we just don't have any way to keep supporting QLab 2, especially since the only computers that can't run QLab 3 are at least 9 years old at this point.

Thanks!

-Andy

Andy,

I also replied to your email but this is an urgent situation attempting to solve a problem for a client. I understand your disclaimers

If you are running 10.11 or 10.12, you will not be able to run it in much of a useful capacity, so it's possibly entirely moot what the reason is.

What I can offer, which may help, is the manual for QLab 2, at http://figure53.com/docs/media/QLab_2_User_Guide.pdf

In addition, they should be encouraged to update to a non-obsolete version at their earliest opportunity, although of course not right before a show.

Well, presuming that you simply need to replace a functioning copy on an old machine that has somehow been damaged and isn’t backed up, the download is archived here:

You should backup your installed programs, backup your systems and have a recovery plan for when the hardware fails and you are forced to upgrade to newer hardware with a newer OS that no longer works with older apps. It’s not a good idea to be relying on software that won’t run on any machine you can currently buy.
