I know SFX does PowerPoint… Any suggestions on how to advance PowerPoint slides via qlab?

Manipulating PowerPoint would be another area that the Script Cue might come in useful. PowerPoint certainly has many Applescript hooks to use.

The only caveat here is that running QLab and PowerPoint at the same time doesn't always work well -- specifically if you're trying to use video cues in QLab AND PowerPoint at the same time. They may try to compete for control of the screens, and that can end up a mess.

The other issue is that I believe PowerPoint tends to want to be the frontmost application, which would mean you'd need to run QLab in the background.

However, if QLab is only doing audio playback, it is possible to have it trigger PowerPoint and play audio.

I must admit not having tried it much myself, so if anyone here has their real-world experience should trump my advice.

Best,
Chris

If the PowerPoint application is on a Mac, there is a program called MIDI Presenter, which allows you to use standard MIDI commands to control PowerPoint or Keynote via MIDI.  I’ve used it a handful of times, but not running on the same machine as QLab or the same machine as SFX.
