I guess some of you have been following
the immigration riots in the UK and the
chilling attempt by the government to stifle
any criticism of government policy.
Its taken a foreign billionaire Musk to set straight
Keir Starmer on his duty to the country. But
what I am concerned about is the ability of
the establishment to even curtail expression
of support on social media. A guy who supported
the riots got 2 years just for supporting them on
Facebook.
It seems to me that the mistake has been to allow
our main media outlets to be privatised which has
allowed totalitarian control of communications and
easy identification. Given the two extremes of government
control and freedom of expression with the usual
proportion of nobheads that you get with freedom, I'd
rather have the latter. I've now got more used to dealing
with nobheads.
But really FaceBook, Youtube and the rest are just an invitation
to state control. The OS movement is all about freedom so why
haven't we got together to create platforms which are free
from establishment control? Can we do better?
