The computer failed again while I'm preparing the second video.
Cause unknown but it may be the graphics card.  Computers
have a 6 year period after which components tend to go.  My old
2009 laptop is still working fine and I'm typing on that.  It's too slow
for development work though.

Ebi who built the machine in 2016 has borne it away.   Hopefully
back to speed soon next week.

You are probably better off with some decommissioned/recycled workstation or server class hardware from Ebay.

It might even workout cheaper than your guys labour costs

There's no warranty on buying stuff from EBay whereas at least the new CPU is under warranty.
This isn't an entry level PC, but was assembled to spec.  8 core 4.0+ GHz.  It's unfortunate that it's failed now and
the component was expensive.    Latest is that the components check out and Ebi has ordered a
motherboard.  I think he's operating on a process of elimination.  Motherboards can last anywhere
from 7 years and up.  This machine is exactly 7 years old.

Had I been aware at the outset of failure that the process would consume this much resources I may
have decided differently.  I've emailed Ebi who built the machine for a heads up on this.

It seems that the motherboard he ordered is the wrong voltage.
The machine is old in computer terms (7 years) and its hard to
find replacements.  And it may be that another component may fail
soon.

In 2016 this hand-built multicore machine was not available in standard PC
shops.  Today I went in to PC world and multicore is the norm now.
There are machines which exceed the spec on my old machine by 50%
but still value at £1500.  To explain, the muticore aspect was important
in testing concurrent Shen which runs under SP.  This machine allowed the
development of that technology.

Ebi, who built the machine, and myself are coming to the conclusion that
this machine has perhaps reached the end of its useful life and only the new
processor installed last month in it has value.   It could easily fail again.

He's willing to deduct the cost of the processor
from any computer he sells and I may take this offer up to get a
multicore laptop.  At the moment I'm running off a laptop plugged into
a desk monitor but it is a very old monocore  (2009) and very slow.

So we should be up by the end of this week.  I'm going into his shop on Wednesday.

The new machine will likely not have the performance of the old, but shy
of spending £1500 its hard to get a better one.  The new one will serve adequately
though I will miss the water cooled monster with its steady blue light and
stomping processor.

We are up and running with a new machine with excellent performance;  I'll update you with performance details.
This is my first experience with Windows 11 which responded to an external drive by shutting down the machine
and placing a security lock on the HDD.  Interesting.

It will take time to transfer data given the impediment above and I'll do some spring cleaning.

One issue is that there is no DVD player and so installing my video editing software will be a challenge.

I've moved the DVD software to USB and tried again; install failed and
had to self-install Microsoft NET after which the install went through.
Video production is good to go.
