This past year is one where I have consciously diverted my attention to issues other then Shen; specifically health issues. But I'm now returning to the question of the consolidation and publication of a large amount of material relating to Shen. This embraces the Shen library which is represented by the equation
library = standard library + concurrency + Shen/tk/IDE + logic lab + Yggdrasil
If gathered into one book, it is likely that this volume would equal the length of TBoS.
In total the volume of published material on Shen exceeds 1000 pages. There is a question of how this material should be published. I think some form of free e-copy would be a good idea. However putting it out as pdf downloads might kill the site. At the moment, according to my web host, the Shen site is clocking 100,000 hits a year.
At the moment TBoS is online as a series of linked jpg files, but I propose to replace
this by linked pdf files which should make the result more readable. The online version
was only there for people to preview the book and for a quick lookup, not for extended reading. But the embedded pdf should allow extended reading.
I'm also looking at sharing the Shen site, in part because if I should suffer misfortune,
then it is important that the material be curated. I have, for some time, been passing
the means to do so to members of the 2011 committee.
Any further suggestions for progress, please use this space.
