Problems in Installation of 64-bit QIIME Virtual Box

Hello, 

I am trying to install the QIIME Virtual Box in my laptop. When I downloaded the latest version of the QIIME (1.9.1), I got a single file named as ' file QIIME-1.9.1-amd64.vdi' in GZ file format which I cannot upload  in the virtual machine. So, I cannot proceed further. Does anyone have any idea on how to deal with it?

I exactly followed the same instructions. The problem I am having with is that I cannot  ‘Add’  the virtual hard drive that was downloaded.

The following Virtual box error is reported:

Failed to open the disk image file C

Could not get the storage format of the medium 'C:\Users\SantoshThapa\Documents\QIIME-1.9.1-amd64.vdi.gz' (VERR_NOT_SUPPORTED).

Hello,

the format of image file should be *.vdi. you can decompress the image file with gzip -d. Then, add the vdi file

Hello Zhiying,

I am able to change the  gz file to gzip and then added the vdi file in the virtual machine.  However, when I double clicked the QIIME virtual machine to boot it for the first time I got a black window with the following error message, instead of a pink window.  

Error: file not found 

grub rescue 

It says the QIIME virtual machine is running but I can only see the black window with the above mentioned error message. I can not see the folder on the desktop. 

Your further suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Hello Santosh,

I have experienced this, like "It says the QIIME virtual machine is running". I tried many methods as below,

first, unistall the VituralBox and re-install it, if in Windows, choose a compatible mode and run it as Administrator role.

second, should not use the same name with last installation, because log file and folder has existed in your home file.

Besides, if the above two mehods do not work, the reason maybe some file in system, which is not easy to resolve.

you may try installing QIIME 1.9.1 using anaconda as mentioned here
