The "Painter's Guide App" has been updated and is now called the "Painter's Guide CIELab App," and it's still completely free. Just visit my website, go to the Apps section, and click the "Painter's Guide CIELab" button. CIELab is currently the most accurate color model for calculating color coordinates, but if you just want to paint, you don’t need to worry about what that means. As a software developer—my new hat, by the way—I’ve been working hard behind the scenes. I should mention that this new version of the app was entirely generated by AI. The key new feature is that it makes it much easier to see gray tones. The image above demonstrates this well: on that gray outdoor sink, I sampled two gray colors from the legs. The program showed that one is a yellowish gray and the other is a turquoise gray. Without this feature, it’s quite hard for untrained eyes to spot the difference. Pretty great, isn’t it?
