Dear Artist Friends,
Still life painting is where my art journey began many years ago. For a long time, I was driven and ambitious, working hard in the hope that one day I could become as good as Richard Schmid—someone who could paint anything well: figures, portraits, landscapes, still life, flowers, you name it. But after stumbling along this artistic path for years, I started to realize that I simply can't do it all. If I can do one or two things fairly well, that would already be quite good. After all, we don’t have unlimited time. A whole lifetime can pass in the snap of a finger.
So I’ve returned to the drawing board. I want to use my "sabbatical" year for pure learning. Since I don’t have access to a quality art education (I’ve heard many people tell me that art schools are a complete waste of time), I have to DIY it on my own. Quietly sitting in my garage—what I call my studio—I communicate meditatively with my inner self. Is that what the Hinduism scriptures call "Brahman"? Well, what ever, but if I listen sincerely, I will know what to do.
Best regards,
Qiang
