Hi all,

I have been trying to learn the synthetic control method for a couple of my research projects.  Does anyone have recommendations for useful resources to learn this method? While I have come across the series of Abadie et al. articles that explain the method, I am hoping to find an article that explains more of the technical details especially using synth in Stata (beyond just the help synth document) and perhaps pitfalls to avoid when using this method.

Thanks,

Meredith

Hi Meredith,

Scott Cunningham (Baylor Economics) has some great resources on his website: http://scunning.com/. He has written an opensource textbook on causal methods that includes stata code and step-by-step instructions to replicate key studies. His book, Causal Inference: The Mixtape , includes a very helpful chapter on Synthetic Controls. It's worth noting that his materials only cover single case studies and doesn't review the synth_runner package for multiple cases.

Hope this is a helpful start!

James
