Hi everyone,

I have recently developed a short tutorial focused on sorting layers in alphabetical order (ascending and descending) within QGIS. While it’s a simple workflow, I’ve found it to be a common point of confusion for users managing projects with a large number of layers.

I would love to contribute this to the QGIS India User Group resources. Before finalized, I’d appreciate it if the members here could review the documentation and provide feedback on the clarity and technical steps.

You can access the tutorial document here:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Lfr-ynNEXekt1jZMH5AFhXngoBs_sLVAvW1ArY1AblE/edit?usp=sharing

A few things I’d love feedback on:

  • Is the workflow easy to follow for beginners?

  • Are there any edge cases or specific QGIS versions where this behavior differs?

Looking forward to your thoughts and suggestions.

with regards.

Hi Sudarshan,

Thank you very much for your interest in contributing to the QGIS India User Group. Sorting layers in alphabetical order is certainly a useful and interesting topic, especially for users managing large projects. Your tutorial also introduces users to working with the Python Console in QGIS, which adds additional learning value for beginners. Kindly mention the QGIS version you have tested the workflow on. Based on the code provided, it should run on all QGIS 3.x versions; however, specifying the tested version will help readers avoid any confusion.

The review team will go through your article soon and update you on its status.

Thank you again for your contribution.

Regards

LKN

Thanks to all,
I have finished incorporating all edits on my end.
The tutorial has been verified and tested on the following versions:

QGIS 3.40.9-Bratislava

QGIS 3.34.0-Prizren

Ujaval, thank you for the suggestion regarding the code block; it definitely improves the readability of the tutorial.

Please review the tutorial for any further corrections.

with regards.
