Guidance Required for Sector-wise Neighbor Creation Based on Azimuth in QGIS

Dear QGIS Support Team,

I hope you are doing well.

I am looking to create a sector-wise neighbor relation layer in QGIS based on azimuth values and would appreciate your guidance on the best approach.

My requirements are as follows:

  • I have a layer containing cellular sectors with attributes such as Site ID, Sector ID, Latitude, Longitude, and Azimuth.
  • I need to identify and create neighbor relationships sector-wise rather than site-wise.
  • The neighbor selection should be based on factors such as:
    • Sector azimuth alignment
    • Distance between sectors/sites
    • Coverage direction (sector facing)
  • The output should generate a neighbor relation table/layer indicating:
    • Serving Sector
    • Neighbor Sector
    • Distance
    • Relative Bearing/Azimuth Difference

Could you please advise:

  1. Whether this can be achieved using native QGIS tools or requires a custom script/plugin.
  2. Which QGIS processing tools would be most suitable for this workflow
  3. If there are any existing plugins or examples available for sector-wise neighbor generation based on azimuth and distance criteria.

Your support and recommendations would be highly appreciated.

Hi Usnish,

I have done similar work in a few different contexts and it is possible natively in QGIS using expressions.

Aggregate expressions are quite powerful but takes a but of time to develop an intuition for using them for your specific purpose. Hope the above resources help.
