Hi everyone,

Could I please ask a probably-obvious-and-a-bit-silly question related to the truthtable produced in R?

When we use fuzzy set QCA, and the truthtable is produced in R. What does 0 and 1 under each condition mean?

Is this correct to say 1 under condition A indicates the condition A is present in that country (for example in country A and B - the first row in the attached image)?
O under Condition B indicates the condition B is absent in Country A and B?

Thank you
Kind regards
Sarah

Dear Sarah,

When the truth table is produced, cases are assigned to its unique configurations based on how close they are to that particular corner of a multi-dimensional vector space.
You might want to take a look at the Chapter 7 from this resource:
(particularly at section 7.3 about hot to get "From fuzzy sets to crisp truth tables")

Best wishes,
Adrian
