I updated my Win 10 to 1809 yesterday. Today I noticed that the first popup of QA takes about 5-7 seconds to appear. The second popup right after the first one is without delay.
If I wait for some time (minute..) the popup is slow again (the Windows circle is on the screen).

Anyone with the same behavior after upgrading to 1809?

I have the Windows version 1809 installed since 5 days and no such problems.
Do you have the actual QAP version 9.2 ?

Yes, portable version 9.2. I tried it with a clean ini file, same behavior...

Please check that 1) the Frequent Items database is enabled (Options, More, Frequent Items Database) and 2) that the Attach Drives menu if unchecked (Options, Menu, Attach"Drives"...).

Tell me if this makes a difference.

both options are set like you asked. I discovered the "Flush Frequent Items Database" button (Options-More-Frequent Items Database), pushed it and now everything is back to normal speed!
Thank you for your fast answer, it seems that this fixed my problem

I'm surprised. When the QAP menu takes time to show up, this is usually for one of these two reasons: Windows is slow providing the free space info required to build the "Drives" menu or slow to provide the info to build the "Recent Folders" and "Recent Files" menus. The wait time is variable because Windows seems to take more time only occasionally.

Since v9.2, the Recent menus (as well as the Frequent menus) are built from the Frequent Menus Database. This database is updated in the background and does not cause variable wait time because the menus are now built from a SQLite database that should always reply with a stable response time. Question: is your QAP portable installation on a slow device like USB key?

My portable folder is located on C:\xxx\xxx which is a SSD drive
Update: It seems that the issue is still  there but not as long as before. Sometimes (I can't reproduce it with a special action) it's still slower but only about 1-2 seconds (before it was up  to 5 seconds) delay

So, on an SSD drive, the issue is not the time it takes to read the data from the SQLite database when QAP refreshes the Frequent/Recent menus. Let me know how things goes in a few days.

And I would like to hear from other users if they also have this variable delay? Again, to minimize the variable delays: enable the Frequent Menus Database (enabled by default) and disable the "Attach Drives" menu.

short update: after a reboot the delay is again here. I'll try some things out (e.g. AV, network drives pinned in QAP, etc...) and report back

Thanks Peni for reporting this. I do not experience it personally but three users are now reporting this issue. I will add some debugging code to the app and ask these users if the want to run QAP in diagnostic mode and send me the results. I will follow up with you by privately about this if you accept.
