Could you please add an option to change the default active folder icons. I don't like the default yellow icons from the application. They looks like too old.

Could you please add an option to change those icons?

Hi Jean,

this is actually the same need, to be answered by another mean, than the
one we dicussed yesterday, when I asked you the ability to specify
somewhere in .ini file a .dll file to use instead of standard JLIcons.dll.

Nota for Sébastien B. : Since I found, like you, these icons a little
bit "old-fashion", I personnaly changed them in the
ProgramData/JeanLalonde/JLIcons.dll (.dll file which provides QAP with
its standard icons)
To modify it, I used a very efficient (and free...) tool, named
ResourceHacker, wich allows to replace, in an .exe or .dll file, various
"resources", including (but not only) icons.
The "only" drawback of my method being that every time a new version of
QAP is available, "my" version of JLIcons.dll is overwritten by the
standard one.
So I asked Jean a mean to avoid this drawback, and Jean agreed that (in
a future version...) it will be possible to use another .dll file for
standard icons than JLIcons.dll

As I mentioned above, your need and mine are then exactly the same, with
two different ways of answering it ;-)

Laurent

I use the portable version and there is never any file replacement without my own action.
I don't see any benefit of using the installer after the very first setup.
Having an option to specify another DLL is fine but I would like replacement options
just pointing to single icons for the standard ones.

Hi,

I took some time to look at this before replying. I understand the wish of Sébastien, Laurent and others to use custom icons not only in Live folders but  anywhere in QAP.

This is why in a near future release (not the one planned for this week but probably the next one), I will add in Options a tool allowing to replace any QAP icon normally found in the JLicons.dll file with icon from your *.ico, *.dll or *.exe files. There will be no need to edit the JLicons.dll file or for an option for a JLicons.dll replacement location. Doing it that way will allow users to customize existing icons without preventing me from adding new icons to JLicons.dll.

This being said, personally, I still like the JLicons "old" icons from Icons8. ;-)

Thanks for your feedback.

Jean

This new option is now available in v9.4.1, in "Options", under the "More" tab. Let me know if you have questions or issues with it.

Hi Jean,

the way for specifying replacement icons sounds good.

The only issue being that... I don't know the "QAP icon name" of icons I
want to replace... Where can we find "QAP Icon name" of icons currently
taken in JLIcons.dll ?

Yes. I have to add it to the FAQ. For now, if you edit a favorite for which you want to replace the icon, go to "Menu Options" and click "Edit icon resource".It is there.

Thanks, you gave me the clue to find name of the 1st icon I wanted to
replace.
But I'm not able to find the name of icon associated to top folder
(liveFolder itself) in the automatic sub-menu of a live Folder.
Actually, "iconLiveFolder" (that I tried...) is the name for Live folder
in the main menu, but not the one of the first line of live folder's
submenu. And I cannot find any way to find this name...
Could you help me ?
