Comrades,
Greetings from Accra where the 13th High-Level Dialogue on Democracy is underway in Accra. It ends by close of the week.
1. In the meantime, in my capacity as Communications/Documentalist for the office of AU Advisory Board Against Corruption (AUABC) Hon. Edem Senanu, I have uploaded some noteworthy articles on
www.edemsenanu.org.
The latest was at dawn, with an interesting news item coming from The Lancet publication seeking to change the narrative on fighting Corruption in health:
2. From 31 July to 1st August, the Ghana Office of African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) is convening a stakeholder meeting that will re-jig the conversation on the targeted review for Ghana on "Corporate Governance" and AfCFTA.
3. There are always exciting updates on ECOWAS Business News (
www.ecowasbusinessnews.com), which is the fastest-growing portal for news on the AU/ECOWAS/continental integration, plus the innovative #7AUAgencies project spearheaded by yours truly in November 2024.
More updates over the next couple of days on continental updates, including a Media Forum organised by African Minerals Development Centre (AMDC) understanding ASM
Before I go, kindly check the story below from "Medecines for Africa", which is always a good update on Africa's health.
Thank you!
My name is Emmanuel. Dedicated to offering a 360 degree perspective on continental integration, and the regional economic communities like none other!

| | | | | Punching Above Its Weight, How Medicines for Africa Put a Once Dismissed Issue - Counterfeit Medicines on the African Agenda | | | Read this article on LinkedIn to join the conversation | When it comes to impact, size doesn’t matter. Conviction does. medicines for africa (mfa) , a small but bold organization, has proven this in powerful ways. With limited resources but unwavering determination, it has elevated one of the most overlooked but deadly issues on the continent. The crisis of substandard and counterfeited medicines. For years, this issue simmered in the shadows. Dismissed and downplayed by many. But today, thanks to medicines for africa (mfa) relentless advocacy, it is finally being treated as the urgent public health emergency it is. From boardrooms to policy summits, from ministries of health to international development forums, counterfeit medicines are now front and center and patient safety is the core message. medicines for africa (mfa) needed to break the silence on a silent epidemic because we have been worried about the quality of medicines people are taking on the African continent. This has been our message from the beginning. Because in Africa, substandard and counterfeited medicines have reached epidemic proportions. These products are dangerous. They not only fail to treat illness. They often cause it. They accelerate antimicrobial resistance. They prolong suffering. Most tragically they lead to preventable death. Most often, it is the poorest and most vulnerable who pay the price. Medicines for Africa recognized early that this wasn’t just a regulatory issue. It was a patient safety crisis. But when they began raising the alarm, they were met with resistance. Regulators pushed back. They accused the organization of implying they weren’t doing their jobs. Some flat out denied that counterfeits were a problem within their borders because the registered all products that are imported. Somehow, Africa had a counterfeited medicines epidemic by no country had them. When it came to counterfeited medicines, each nation claimed theirs well-regulated environment. Critics sent direct threats and hostile messages to medicines for africa (mfa) CEO, urging them to “drop the issue. or else” They even sent heavy hitting regulatory leaders to tell medicines for africa (mfa) to stop because they were being disruptive. Others tried to police the language. “Don’t call them counterfeit. Call them falsified or substandard.” Even today, medicines for africa (mfa) still gets berated in private. But medicines for africa (mfa) has stood firm. Because the lives of real people in African nations were at stake and continue to be. Language matters. The truth matters even more. And with time, the truth has a way of coming out. ... | | | | | | | | This email was intended for Emmanuel.K.
