With less than a week to go before the 5th edition of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Youth Symposium, scheduled to be held in South Africa from 10-11 November, you could be forgiven for thinking it is yet-another conference that brings Youth to just talk. Consistently, the APRM's Youth Symposia have remained critical sites of engagement among the youth. With 2026 being an important year reflecting over 20 years of the African Youth Charter, there could be no better time than now to take stock of efforts by continental Youth for a better Africa. The Unconstitutional Changes of Government across the continent has become an existential crisis for youth looking for better opportunities for themselves and their families. At a time when the continent advocates for greater intra-African trade through AfCfTA, it becomes important for youth to re-engage continental issues around the African Union that inures to their benefit. Fora like the upcoming Symposium in Midrand offer great spaces to catalyse conversations and change.
