Screen dims when switching to the app

Is this supposed to happen? I want to get rid of it but I don't see any preferences for it, is there something wrong on my end?

mmm...  What settings do you have for appearance? Mine runs as a black background and green letters, which was default from what I remember. Not at home to check right now...

Yeah I have somewhat similar. But the problem is that the screen dims when I'm in the app. When I alt-tab out of it the brigthness goes back up. I'm  on desktop computer so the screen should never dim unless I want it to. When I go to the app settings the screen undims it self and I get the default brigthrness. When I close settings it goes back. Having the app windowed doesn't help. Additionally I have the same exact problem in the app called FocusWriter.
