Hi Pierre,

I was wondering if you could update mayavi2 in the python(x,y)
package, or if it's possible for me to do this cleanly. I'm asking
because I was told in their mailing list (
https://mail.enthought.com/pipermail/enthought-dev/2008-July/015749.html
) that a feature which I really need is in the new mayavi2 version 2.2
in ETS 2.8.
If you can't use this link; one of my questions/queries there was if
it's possible to scale the z-axis in a enthought.mayavi.mlab.surf()
plot _without_ changing the values; i.e. just changing the appearance
of the plot.

Thanks in advance, cheers

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Updating ETS is a very quick process for me.
However ETS 2.8 binaries have to be available at
http://code.enthought.com/enstaller/eggs/windows/xp/, which is not the
case right now (there is still ETS 2.7.1 and MayaVi 2.1).

Sources are available though, but I don't have the time to build them
right now. So your best chance would be to ask Enthought to upload
their binaries (and in my opinion, that's a very quick and easy task
for them).

If you want to install it on your own, let's say only MayaVi2, you
still need the binaries (see above) and you would have to use
easy_install on a Windows command console:
easy_install -f http://code.enthought.com/enstaller/eggs/windows/xp/
enthought.mayavi

Hi Thomas,

I finally found some time last night to build ETS 2.8.
You'll find an installer in this two-parts archive:
http://pythonxy.googlecode.com/files/EnthoughtToolSuite-2.8.0.part1.rar
http://pythonxy.googlecode.com/files/EnthoughtToolSuite-2.8.0.part2.rar

I've tested it very quickly so I don't guarantee anything.
It will be included in Python(x,y) 2.0.1 with a lot of various
improvements (scheduled for next month >> due to vacation!).

Thanks Pierre. The upgrade works fine, the new function I was looking for is there as well, it's just not working correctly as of yet :/ I'll write in the mayavi mailing list about it (later... I'm on vacations as well :) )

Ciao
