Hi there

I dont know if you remember, but not long ago we did a Science code day ( at the time we called it Sciece code retreat but it wasnt really a code retreat . Why)
the intention of the day was to bring science people (ie physicist, astrologists, etc) and developers togheter and try to learn something from each other.
The day was very interesting but it seemed like there was more to do on that so we are trying to find a good format, to get to a more productive stage

To that end,

  • If you were there, was there anything you would like to comment
  • We are running a pilot ( small session with  some scientists) soon and python seems to be of particular interest to some of the guys we talked to. Please contact me if you would like to participate of this pilot .

We want to make this a bigger something I m calling it something because its not simple to understand what will work. It could be an event, could be  a workshop, could be a website, could be all of them,,,, you get the drift
Any feedback on this topic of science and code highly appreciated

Cheers

I don't expect Physicists and Astrologists would have much to learn
from each other.

Physicists and Astronomers, now that might be an interesting discussion.

Sorry, this Astronomer couldn't resist ;-)

BTW: you do not need any science background to participate :D.

Hi Andrea,

Could I suggest you add engineers to that list? I would be interested in taking part. One thing that I think would be of great benefit to scientists and engineers would be to have a session on real-time data visualisation from an external source (e.g. serial port, daq hardware, etc..). It seems to be a common requirement with very few examples available around the net.

When would you be thinking of having it?

Cheers,

Jack

The earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena. Think of the rivers of blood spilled by all those generals and emperors so that in glory and in triumph they could become the momentary masters of a fraction of a dot.

:) Bad wording, the idea is that developers learn about the science domain and scientist learn more about programming (since most use it at some level or other).

Engineers welcome .
That is exactly the type of problems we want to talk about
Sent you an email with more detials

More should come out of that session, I ll report here

I am interested too, especially in the area of data visualization.

I'm also interested, esp. with data visualization. It reminds me a
bit of the Hacks & Hackers day earlier this year where they paired
journalists & developers to see what stories could be found with open
data sets in Ireland. Some very cool results! I'd definitely be
interested in the pilot, sounds great!
