Where to start ? this year i would like to try, with my 12 year old
son, to try to learn how to write and encourage him to write small
programs or a least to learn not to be afraid to try. Any advise out
there...... i am based in Sligo.

"Invent your own computer games with Python" might be useful, http://inventwithpython.com/.

Python Koans is an interactive tutorial for learning Python by making tests pass, https://bitbucket.org/gregmalcolm/python_koans/wiki/Home

Emmm, eh... check out Head First Programming:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Head-First-Programming-learners-programming/dp/0596802374/

I know... I know... a totally shameless plug. ;-)

A colleague in work let his 12 year old at it and he had a blast going
through the book.

And, of course, there's the added benefit that the authors are in the
same time-zone as you (although not in Sligo!!!), and we like
answering questions. :-)

Regards.

Paul.

Coderdojo Galway will be starting on February 4th. Runs on Saturdays. Might be something to pop down to every once in a while?
