Hello all, my summer schedule puts me out of town for both the July and August meetings. That doesn't mean they can't go ahead, someone else will just have to coordinate them.

But I have a suggestion. Why don't we meet again in September but have some kind of "planning" BBQ get together July 24th. We could discuss what we'd like to cover off in the fall and ideas for increasing turnout. The small meetings are great but there are some really talented people out there and it would be fun to attract some of those lurkers.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Greg

I think a structured event and perhaps a change of venue would attract
more people.

For example, I've been lurking this mailing list for years but until
very recently have never found the time or motivation to attend a
get-together. Even then, including myself there were 3 of us in total
in the month before the last.

So each month a member might volunteer to do some research on
something Pythonic (ie: decorators in Python) and share their findings
with the rest of the group. It doesn't have to be very in-depth or
long and there would be lots of time for discussion afterwards.

When I was a student transportation was a real issue. I live near the
University of Calgary and own a vehicle but finding the time to make
the commute to Arusha place was next to impossible. I know there are a
lot of Pythoneers in the area by the University, but relying on the
transit system in an Albertan winter can be a real disincentive and
many may think it's not worth the hassle.

On the other hand I think it's good that Arusha place is (more or
less) a consistent place to meet but just keep in mind that you are
segregating the population of Pythoneers in with no time, money, or
vehicle. But you are going to do that no matter wherever the meetings
are held.

Just my 2 cents. Perhaps some of the regulars might have a different
perspective.
