Hi all,

We're talking about the possibility of taking linting as-is from source code development into content creation - how it would work, whether it would work and how it might look and act.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Best,
Marcus

Hello Marcus,

I think it's a cool idea.
I imagine using it like you use the snap hotkeys in maya,
something like you press a key, and shows issues in the view you are now,
and when you release the key, the warnings go away.

I'm also wondering what the TD union thinks about this,
because if it works half of the tds will be laid off! hahahaha
just kidding! ;)

Cheers,
Eduardo

Hey Thanks, Eduardo!

That’s a good idea!

Hello Christopher,

Thanks for noticing it.
After a long international dispute,
I was finally removed from the musical offenders database,
and I'm currently doing presentations for my kids
of lullabys in the style popularized by 'The Treeman'
Here is a link for those not familiar with his art

Regarding the website music, if you stay long enough,
you get to listen to the whole playlist, including
great hits from the 80's by Europe.
As i type this, I realize that this may explain the high bounce rate my
google analytics's report.

Once again, sorry for the off topic, i cant help it! ;)
Cheers,
Eduardo

Hey Marcus,

It would be a great resource also to make a list of the stuff
to check on a scene. You can take the input of the whole googlegroup
and come up with a very extensive check list.
It would be great also to have it breaken down in cheks per tasks.
Cheers,
Eduardo

The linting examples are all rather non-artistic, how about hooking the linting up with some review-tool (like shotgun) to get more linting relevant to creative "errors".

@johan, that’s an interesting thought. Do you mean something in terms of having the results of a creative review (e.g. “bigger smile”) to be visualised in-app along with other discoveries during linting? Sort of like an interactive version of where a supervisor draws on a screenshot of your work with his notes?

It would be a great resource also to make a list of the stuff
to check on a scene. You can take the input of the whole googlegroup
and come up with a very extensive check list.

Do you have any particular tests in mind?

Here’s a few I can think of.

  • Naming convention followed? (Visualised in the outliner)
  • Hierarchy integrity withheld? (do children have the right parents?)
  • Muted channels (are they only supposed to be used temporarily?, visualised in the channelbox)
  • Latest version of asset? (Visualised in Outliner)
  • Is the rig in its defaults state? (Visualised in viewport?)

There’s more discussion about the how and why of tests here (tech-artists.org).

Best,
Marcus
