Maya API tuts

Hi guys. I come from art background and slowly been learning python on my own so I can write my own tools.

I know some things now with simple scripts . But I wanted to step up writing plugins.

The thing is I kinda bumped into a wall. I can't understand the API docs . Does anyone know of a good intro tut to translating it? As I mentioned I know close to nothing about c++. Can someone point me a direction?
