Write text in existing Maya 2D viewport

Hi,

I'm fairly new into Maya UI stuff, so I'm looking for a way to add a text in the existing 2D Maya screen. The idea would be to add a message on top of the camera name on the center lower area of the screen that stays there continuously while a tool window is open. How can I do that? Example picture below. Thank you! :)

Check out heads up display. May be a little off from your specific request but there's a lot you can do with it.
